Read on for the whole story and unlock the wonders of cloves!
So, you’ve heard about the magical powers of cloves, and you want to know what all the fuss is about. Well, buckle up butter cup because I’m about to enlighten you on the wonders of this little herb.
First off, let’s talk about how and when to use cloves. This tiny spice packs a big punch when it comes to flavor, so if your recipe calls for a warm, rich, and slightly sweet flavor, cloves are your go-to. Bonus: they also have some impressive health benefits, which we’ll get into in a minute.
Now, onto the common uses of cloves. You might be surprised to learn that cloves aren’t just for spicing up your mulled wine or adding depth to your curries. Did you know that cloves can also help alleviate oral pain? Yep, you read that right. Clove oil has been used for centuries as a natural remedy for toothaches and gum pain. It’s like a tiny superhero for your mouth!
So, how can you use cloves to kick oral pain to the curb? Well, there are a few options. One of the most popular methods is to apply a drop of clove oil directly to the affected area using a cotton swab. The oil’s natural analgesic properties can help numb the pain and provide some relief until you can make it to the dentist. Just be sure to dilute the oil with a carrier oil like coconut or olive to avoid any irritation.
Another (slightly more enjoyable) option is to make your own clove tea. Simply steep a few whole cloves in hot water for a few minutes, strain, and voila! Sip on this soothing brew to help ease any mouth pain.
Recently I gave this option a go. I found out the hard way I clench my teeth at night. After having abscess signs and going to the dentist who sent me to a specialist who quickly said, your tooth is fine. Your jaw is the issue. You clench your teeth, and this is causing an infection. Welp, I took the antibiotics (super rare for me) and ended up getting thrush!
Being grossed out by this new phenomena I ran to CLOVE! I made a strong tea and rinsed my mouth for 3 days with it. I love effective natural remedies. It worked beautifully.
How to make the tea:
*store in fridge for 3 day. Rinse mouth 2x a day
But wait, there’s more! Cloves aren’t just for oral care. Although regularly rinsing your mouth with clove is incredibly healthy and effective. They can also be used to help treat minor cuts and scrapes. The antiseptic properties of cloves can help prevent infection and promote healing. Just grind up a few cloves into a powder and mix it with a bit of water to create a paste. Apply this paste to the wound and cover with a bandage for some extra healing power.
Another favorite of mine is Golden Milk tea! This delicious spicy tea does wonders for your whole body. While rinsing with clove tea was great. I also made Golden Milk each evening.
I used our Golden Milk tea, added 1/4 vanilla bean, and 5 cloves! Simmered in milk for 5 mins and strained into a mug. Then I added some honey once it cooled enough.
Pst…Wanna geek out on clove? I love research on herbs. Here is a quick and resourceful article on cloves from the National Library of Medicine.
