Traditional Use: Leaves – In both fresh and dried form, leaves of eucalyptus are used as air fresheners and in medicinal teas. Oil – In this form, eucalyptus is added to cough and cold medicines, dental products, antiseptics and used directly to treat fevers. Oils are also used in industrial mining operations and as aromatherapy.

Common Use: Eucalyptus is widely used as a natural cold remedy and is a common ingredient in cold and cough products. Research has shown that it can decrease mucus and expand the bronchi and bronchioles of your lungs. It’s also a natural anti-inflammatory agent.

Dispensing: When taken by mouth: People often consume eucalyptus as a flavoring in small amounts in foods…. But it is unsafe to take pure eucalyptus oil by mouth. Taking only 3.5 mL (less than one teaspoon) of the pure oil can be fatal. Eucalyptus oil can cause nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
