Creating sacred space in your home, office, or specific rooms can provide you with comfort, clarity, and a renewed sense of purpose. It creates new energy, honestly.

It’s not about “the look”

Clearing energy from your environment is not for aesthetic purposes; it fosters a harmonious atmosphere conducive to productivity, relaxation, spiritual practices, and creativity.

You clear or refresh the energy in your room or space, so you don’t have any negativity or someone else’s energy in your personal environment.

Energy clearing in this way creates and maintains an environment that vibes with you. This also aids in keeping unwanted entities, or other energy, from feeling welcome into your space.

When your space is clear and sacred, it is easier to be authentic and free of outside influences.

Let’s dive in.

Timing

People always want to know when the best time is to do this. The answer is it’s up to you.

I tend to do mine at night.

Choose a time that feels right for you; many find the early morning or just before dusk ideal, it’s usually before or after the noise of the day.

You don’t want to be interrupted.

Additional examples of timing

  • Often practitioners do this after appointments to clear the prior client’s energy.
  • It’s common when moving into a new space to consecrate your home or office.
  • The Full Moon is another great time to get rid of anything that has built up.
  • Some prefer a daily practice to ensure they are always in the right, maintained space just for them.

It’s really up to you and what you are feeling or sensing in your intuition. There are no hard and fast rules around this.

First thing’s first

The first step is to identify the space that requires clearing. Take time to examine the area and notice any lingering feelings or distractions that may impact your well-being.

Trust what you are feeling and work with it.

Once you have identified the space (maybe this is a room, office, or sometimes even your whole house), begin to declutter the space physically and emotionally.

  • Start by removing any unnecessary items from the space.

NOTE: This may be difficult, depending on the season, era, or what you are working with. Let it be a temporary move if you need it to be. Place items that are challenging to move in a temporary space while you clear.

Allow it to be okay to move things around, even temporarily. (Once the energy is cleared, the item may no longer “belong” where it once was… and this counts too.)

  • Donate, recycle, or dispose of items that no longer serve you.

This step creates a clean environment and opens energetic pathways for new opportunities and possibilities.

Once the above is complete, continue on with the following steps:

  1. Make sure you have the time to complete this list all-in-one step
  2. Collect the tools you need for your intentions:
    • Sage, incense, feather, and/or shell
  3. Open all your doors, windows, cabinets, closets…all the things
  4. Create your mantra you will say when you are walking through your space
  5. Request your guides, angels, beings, or what is here for you to come and help you clear your space
  6. The starting point is your front door entrance (the primary one)
    • if you are burning to cleanse, this is when you light your tool
    • if this is for one room, start at the entrance door to your room or office
  7. Start chanting your mantra and walking counterclockwise
  8. Waving the smoke to get into every corner and crevices’
  9. Once you are back at your starting point, repeat clockwise 2 times
  10. On your third and final round, you stop at the main entrance and you are done
    • if you are burning you set your burning item(s) outside the front entrance and let it finish burning out
    • if you do this regularly (1x a month) you only need to do one round clockwise.

By following these steps, you cultivate an inviting environment—one that supports your endeavors and well-being.

Remember that the practice of space clearing is not only about removing unwanted energies but also about inviting in what aligns with your highest self. Your commitment to creating this sacred space will yield benefits that extend far beyond its physical boundaries.

Here are some FAQ’s I get a lot:

How do I cleanse my office?

Often, we can’t burn things in office buildings. In this case I recommend cleansing spray. It’s best to look at sprays that are cedar, sage, frankincense, palo santos, etc.

My space has multiple stories, where do I start?

You start at the top or bottom floor (I usually feel the energy and choose). Always from the main entrance or most northern spot in your space.

Which tool do I use?

Here is my advice… and you will eventually find what works best for you in your space.

The lightest option is a spray, depending on the infusion. I have them listed below in order of strength from lightest to most intense:

  1. spray
  2. incense
  3. sage
  4. palo santo
  5. resin

I always recommend using one of the bottom 3 for the first time cleansing or if you cleansing less frequently (like once a month).

How do I construct my mantra?

Mantras are personal.

However, to get you started you want to have something that deems the energy out and claims your space. A simple one would be:

“This is my home and sacred space. All energies and beings must now leave. If you are in my space and are uninvited you must now leave. Only beings here for my higher purpose can stay. this space is to be filled with love and bliss and is my sanctuary.”

Or,

“This is my home and sacred space. All energies and beings must now leave. this space is to be filled with love and bliss and is my sanctuary, all others must get out now.”

Intention IS everything.

Remember intention is everything. Say this like you mean it, clearly and firmly. It’s your space in this realm and you have every right to claim it and make it sacred for you.

What about the energies I don’t want to kick out that have been invited in?

You simply explain telepathically or verbally out loud what you are doing. Assuring them you will invite them back in once you are done but you are clearing the other energies.

What if my tool keeps burning out?

Usually this means there is a lot of energy and density to your environment. Stop where you are and relight your tool and continue on.

What if I’m not done but what I was burning is used up?

This happens. No worries. Just add resin, get more sage or incense and keep going. You won't want to break your circle.

I often keep the supplies in my pocket the whole time for this reason.

Additional helpful info

Using sound:

Sound vibration is wonderful as well. We use this a few times a year in our home. It helps break up the energy and makes it easier to flow out of your space. You can use drums or bells for this.

Bells are great to break up density if the energy feels soggy and like it might be towards or on the floor. Drums are great for walls and ceilings or that energy that feels like it’s cold and solid (like slate).

We use drums on the property to clean our property before laying crystal grids or for ritual purposes. We often use the drums and rattles throughout the ritual anyway, shifting intentions.

Place wind chimes around your space indoors or outdoors (I place mine in my windows of every room and on all the corners of my home) this wards off energy as well.

Crystals:

Gridding: Crystal grids are wonderful to claim space and keep the energy maintenance low. This is where you place smokey quartz in each direction. Meaning you place one in each of the compass corners (north, east, south and west).

Energetically you draw lines to each crystal to connect the crystals to create a grid. This holds your space like a forcefield. When you order your room or whole house grids we send the instructions for how to do this so you don’t have to guess.

Barriers:

Many choose to protect entrances (windows and doors) so when they are opened it’s not an invitation for any being.

You can do this with herbal bundles (cedar, sage, lavender, cinnamon sticks) above doors and obsidian or other dark crystal in your windows.

I personally keep obsidian in every window and at every exterior door of my home. I also have herbal bundles at the doors, and chimes in the windows.

Another common practice is to use black salt and or cinnamon around the outside of your home. An extra bonus is these keep mice and other rodents from coming in too.

Create a consistent full circle around your home. You can mix the salt and cinnamon together if you would like.

Planting fennel is another great way to create a barrier. You would do this when you have a flow of energy that keeps coming straight to your home. You can plant in planters or straight into the ground.

As we change seasons on our journey, this time of year brings lots of questions about how to create a sacred space.

It’s a good idea to deepen your understanding of the energy-clearing process now, and understand how to clear and refresh energy in your home as a way to maintain or foster new well being.

Keep your home a sacred safe haven and enjoy the process of clearing and cleansing your space’s energy.
