Description
Traditional Use: Dandelion is often used in traditional medicine to treat constipation and improve digestive health. One older animal study found a significant increase in the rates of stomach contractions and stomach emptying in rats treated with dandelion extract.
Common Use: Dandelion root is sometimes used to heal skin lesions, rashes, and acne. Dandelion root may also be helpful for managing blood sugar in people with diabetes and repairing liver damage. More research is needed before recommending dandelion root for preventing or treating any conditions
Dispensing: A typical dosage of dandelion root is 2 to 8 g, 3 times daily of dried root; 250 mg, 3 to 4 times daily of a 5:1 extract; or 5 to 10 ml, 3 times daily of a 1:5 tincture in 45% alcohol. The leaves may be eaten in salad or cooked.
