Description
Traditional Use: Spearmint is used for digestive disorders including gas, indigestion, nausea, diarrhea, upper gastrointestinal tract spasms, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), bile duct and gallbladder swelling (inflammation), and gallstones.
Common Use: Toothpaste, mouthwash, breath mints, and chewing gum are all commonly flavored with mint.
Research published in Phytotherapy Research suggests that drinking two cups of spearmint tea a day, for 5 days could reduce the level of androgens in women with hirsutism. A second, 30-day study , of 41 women with polycystic ovary syndrome, produced similar results.
